Baby not playing

Kono, is not playing yet. His hatch date was Dec 13, I have had him a week.
He eats and drinks fine. makes lots of happy noises but not playing. I have a swing...he loves and lots of toys I bought off of experienced parrotlet owners. Is this normal? Am I expecting to much too soon?
Any feedback is appreciated.

If you've only had him a week, I really wouldn't worry. He's still settling in to his new home. And some parrotlets just like toys more than others. I would make sure you have a good variety of toys available in case he decides to try them, but other than that don't stress out about it.

Don't worry, very normal. Some birds just play less altogether and would rather hang out with you, or it takes a while. He sounds like a sweetheart! Welcome to the forum!

The first few weeks I brought Levi home he literally did nothing. He just sat on his perch cuddled up to a toy and would sometimes preen. If I went near him he sat as still as a statue. After that he settled in and I presented him with different types of toys to figure out what he liked. Once we figured out that stuff you chew is FUN and bells are LOUD he became very active.

You're doing fine

My girl did not play with her toys for quite some time, unless I played with her. Even today she does not play that much with toys, far less than any other bird I've had over the years. I hear of some parrotlets playing a lot with their toys, and others, like mine, not so much. Sky most enjoys hanging out on me and flying around, checking this and that out, then flying back to me. During the day, here and there, she'll ring her bells some and play a bit...that's the way it goes with her.

I have had my parrotlet for about a month now and the first toy she went nuts for was a Bird Kabob. Some reading suggested that Bird Kabobs are almost the catnip of the bird world, so these might be worth a shot!

edit: and I think you want to make sure its made of Yucca. Not sure if they make different kabobs or not.

Oh yeah all my birds love those Yucca Kabob! You can get them at the pet store. Mine also like those little grass fan like toys.

I agree with what has been said. Another thing I wanted to mention was sort of what Malachi wrote. Play WITH your bird. Interaction is important. Playing with the toys in front of your pet bird can teach them how to play. Seeing you play with the toys makes them want to do it. Maybe not at first, but when you're not looking
