Guidelines for Discussing Breeders, Pet Stores, etc.

In recent weeks we have had two major threads about bad experiences with parrotlet breeders. As mods, we have discussed the matter and come up with the following simple guidelines to help prevent these important discussions from getting out of hand and ruining the atmosphere for everybody.

You are more than welcome to share your experiences here on TalkParrotlets - that's what helps make our community great. If you decide to post about your experiences (positive OR negative) with a breeder, pet store or private seller, please keep the following points in mind:

1) Please DO NOT include in your post the name of the breeder, their website, or other contact info other than maybe their state or province in your post. You are more than welcome to offer to provide this information to interested parties via PM, but it cannot go in the open forum.

2) Please share ONLY YOUR OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES - no suspicions, no rumours, no gossip.

3) Be RESPECTFUL in your responses, even if your experiences have been totally different. Everyone is entitled to their opinion unless the practices in question are downright dangerous. Flaming and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

4) Be MINDFUL of the fact that there are two sides to every story and that in many cases, the breeders we discuss are not here to answer questions or otherwise respond to concerns.

5) Please do not use inflammatory language - this will only lead to circular arguments that go nowhere, but get everyone very upset.

Aviculture is a hobby that attracts passionate people with many different opinions. I am hoping that these guidelines will help us avoid future trainwrecks on the forum.

Im sorry

The reason for my post was to warn others about the store. I didn't mean to offend.

Your post did not offend... but sounds like they just wanted to establish some guidelines... your thread seems to be within those guidelines from what I read.

Thanks, Enborgle. I agree with you totally and hope everyone reads and understand why we are establishing these guidelines.

We all need to try to be peaceful and respectful of each other, even during disagreements. The world is a crazy place right now, so maybe, at least in our little forum, we can keep peace.

If someone asks in the forum for experience with XYZ Parrotlet Aviary, will their post be deleted or would the post remain so that members could respond through private message?

I have no dog in this hunt, but thought further clarification might be in order.

Thanks.

As stated in guideline #1, the name of the breeder should not be listed in the public forum. The state or province the breeder is in could be mentioned. Interested parties can pm the poster to ask for details.

These guidelines needed to be set up because in recent weeks, discussions about a particular breeder have gotten out of hand.

We hope everyone understands that we all need to be respectful of each other and not let a "discussion" escalate to an argument.

Talkparrotlets.com is NOT a customer service forum/website/blog.

If you have a problem with a business, please communicate all issues you have to that business's email or customer service line. We as a forum cannot help you with any transactions that take place.

There are a number of review sites and organizations that you can report your issues to. This forum is not meant for business reviews and we are not going to interfere with a person's lively hood.

I understand that most people want to protect others from a business that could harm someone or a bird; however, we do not allow these businesses to post here, so reviews are moot, especially since we are spread throughout the world. Most people will most likely find a breeder close to home anyways.

This forum is really meant to be light and fun, but informative.

Thank you for posting this as you stated this should hopefully avoid any problems in the future. So you can mark me as "read & understood".
