I talk to my Birds all the time, I don't know why I would think they can understand me. Or at least they act like they don't.

Get down from there..... You want to come out?.... Don't go in the kitchen!...Don't chew my curtains!.... You pooped on the couch AGAIN?
Oh my favorite, "Where did you go?" They never answer that one. Just fly off and leave me looking all over the house.

LOL! Oh, they understand you, they just have "selective hearing." I learned that when my cockatiel was about 10 and she answered my "do you want popcorn" by going nuts! I then realized that she had been answering my "do you want to go to bed" every night, but I didn't realize it because "yes" was her chirping her head off and "no" was her pretending not to hear me. Never underestimate their vocabulary, as well as their stubbornness.
I totally chirp, whistle, kiss, and bird-noise my way through the day in addition to my constant talking to Tumi. I whenever I feel that I might be insane to just talk to him, I remind myself how much English Ruby turned out to know and keep communicating clearly. (Plus, I live alone so I don't have to worry about other people thinking we are weird.)
I AM A CRAZY BIRD LADY AND PROUD OF IT!

At the moment, Jasper is in the bathroom cat calling and saying "Jasper, what are you doing?"

I just have to share something more about my roommate and his bird chattering.

Sooo....last year it just so happened that I encountered him at the grocery store, in the produce department, getting some stuff for himself and Hannah, and there he was in public whistling and chirping as though Hannah was right there with him, with folks giving him some curious looks! I just busted out laughing...talk about 'crazy bird people'!

It was pretty funny.

When hubby and I are at the grocery store or somewhere like that and we loose each other, we do a Melody or a Jasper whistle. Gets the other ones attention right away. However I could yell "John, John, John.." about 10 times and would not notice. LOL

Jaspers whistles never bother me, he's so happy when he cat calls. And then he says "pretty bird!" It's too cute. To me it sounds more like "Weeet-wooooo!!"

I love that you whistle at each other. Much nicer than the "woman" that my husband calls out. We have weird nicknames for each other. :P

hi, i am new to this forum but have the same problem, just very early. My daughter's bird is plucking or barbering his belly feathers. He has been very aggressive too. the bird fleece collar is too heavy for him. using featherfluff and trying the avicalm but he doesnt like it. Any suggestions? I feel like a horrible parent. I give him as much attention as i can....my daughter has had him since the fourth grade-now going into high school and spend little time with him. I can only get so much done with him on my shoulder....
any suggestions would be appreciated! already tried a fleece collar-too heavy and he hates it
