I have looked everywhere online and haven't found any answers. I have two parrotlets, that I was told were born mid December/16 (it's now mid march/17). I am pretty sure they're both boys as they both have "eye shadow" and blue wings. One is a blue pied and one a blue pastel. The past two days they've been, from what I can see, performing "sexual acts" with each other. Is this normal or what is going on with them?! I have a video I can send if needed.

You have pictures with wing spreads and rump angles? It is hard to tell from the angles especially with mutations.

This one is the one in question. I know for sure the other one is a boy. Sorry I couldn't get the best pictures. It didn't like what I was doing very much!

Question

Hi.

I am no expert, but the last bird looks female to me. With pied it is hard to tell. Sometimes after they have a hard molt, the blue will come through a little better.
A vet can do a DNA test. It is not expensive, from what I understand.
If they are trying to or are mating, which one is on the bottom? I will bet it is the last one in the pics you sent..

Dave and Bogie.

Unless you sent a drastically different photo of the pied, I'm confident they are both male. I can see the dark rump on the Pied and the dark blue on the edge of the wing, and the shots you posted of the other one are definitely male.
It's hormone time, it's not uncommon for males for wiggleneck to anything, including a toy, or get a little..... to friendly. My girlfriend's male tried to mount his brother once.
Are they housed together? Partotlets can sometimes live together peacefully as babies, but once they mature they can get agressive and hormonal. They need their own cages and lots of toys for activities, so if they don't have their own space you need to give them that. With that and supervised time together and with you they will settle down, I think.

Hey everyone. The one on top is the darker pied one which I'm 100% is a boy based on his colourings. The pastel one is the one in question. I believed he was a boy based on the bright blue rump but his wings weren't that blue and it was on bottom so I kind of freaked out right now they are housed together but I think I'm going to build a bigger cage for them with a separator in the middle. They definitely love to be with each other and it seems that one is falling behind in learning because he relies so much on the other. They have toys but they don't seem to play with any, they just eat and sleep and sometimes chase each other around. Hopefully the bigger cage with new toys and being separated will get them going.

They both seem adorable, even being both males.

Both are male. Your plan sounds perfect. I'm sure they will be just fine.

Well I got their new home built! I have them each their own side of the mansion. Now I need to get more toys to fill the space! (Plus now I need double of everything)

That looks great! What kind of wood and wire mesh did you use? Some woods and wire mesh can be harmful, just curious what you researched and came up with.
