Exclamation wheezing/sneezing/sinus infection

Twinks was diagnosed with a sinus infection the other day (mucus blocking nasal passages, wheezing, sneezing.) Vet looked in her mouth and saw excess mucus. Didn't hear any wheezing in lungs though!
She sneezes all night, wheezing/gurgling noise with every breath, and has no "chirp" - her little voice box is covered in mucus I guess. Makes me soooooo sad that I can't hear her excitement when I walk in the door.

The first vet told me one of her nares was closed indefinitely with scar tissue. Gave me an antibiotic for 14 days and said it was hopeless if it doesn't work. Not what I wanted to hear.
Well, we got home and both nasal passages were open! He wasn't a specialist, so I decided to get a 2nd opinion last night.
So thankful I made that decision. He gave her a shot in her sternum (I wish I could remember what it was! And Twinks didn't seem bothered by it at all!) and said it should clear it up in 8 days. PRAYERS PLEASE.

I do see signs of hope! She's still eating and drinking - I know this b/c she's still pooping consistently! She's not as excited about food but she's eating none the less.
Her activity level is reduced to very short bursts of energy followed by sleepiness b/c it's tough to breath BUT she's not breathing through her mouth which is a good sign.
Tonight she didn't want to be away from me. I tried to put her on her cage twice and she just wanted to be with me. So endearing but makes me worry.

I'm not a person who handles the big D word very well, so I'm trying to stay calm, positive, and doing everything I can. It's so painful to hear her suffering but I believe theres still so much hope!
I understand our babies are SO DELICATE and tricky to provide a real answer but any experienced opinions/suggestions?

Sounds like she's doing better already, what a scare. I would be so worried like you untill my baby was 100%. That's great she is breathing through the nose again. I have heard many happy stories of birds who were very sick and pulled through just fine, so hang in there.
How did you notice she was stuffed up? Was she exhibiting alot if sick symptoms? Good job going straight to the vet.

Thank you! Made me smile. I needed that.
I noticed her nose was crusting over occasionally but nothing else was wrong. She let me pick it & she could go days without any issues, and other days it crust over again & her nose would drain so much I would blot it with a tissue! It was very inconsistent that I didn't think much of it- MY FAULT! Note to anyone reading this- if your baby has any issues with their nose- GO TO THE VET!

But the past 3 weeks we noticed she would sneeze at night. And then in the past 4 days she starting wheezing a little, and the past 2 days we can't hear her chirp. But I have some good signs that she will HOPEFULLY be ok, but I've been listening to her sneeze all night in her cage. The sneezing seems to heighten at night. Kind of like a human's temperature peaking at night, I'm assuming. and also its the medication helping her push it out.

She's a healthy eater- try to give organic/non gmo as much as possible. Just ordered some organic seed from thingsforwings.com
I have been putting vitamins and apple cider vinegar in her water too.
Thanks for responding!

Poor thing, sounds miserable. Hopefully now that she's getting some medicine she will just stay on the up. I've never seen my Birds get stuffy nose, just normal ocational sneeze. Did the vet say what started it?

The vet did a good job since there are a lot of hopeful signs in her recovery.

How could she have caught this "bug?" Is her cage covered enough? I leave the cover half-open for both my birds, especially in the winter. Best to you.

Poor girl! Keep her warm and comfy and eating. I would be weighing her every day to make sure she is maintaining her weight. I'm glad you found an avian specialist, as those that see dogs and cat really aren't the right people to care for parrotlets.
Make sure she has all the millet her little beak can handle while she is sick. It is easy, tasty, and quick energy.

Thank you everyone for your support and advice.

Sadly, Twinks passed around midnight last night. THIS IS THE WORST FEELING EVER!
I have not come to terms with death in general so it makes this a little more challenging.

She could not chirp anymore.
I KNEW deep down this was not going to end well but I did not tell my boyfriend that. I had thoughts about "my next bird" and then immediately thought "oh no no Twinks will be ok! No reason to think about another bird YET!". But the fact that she lost her chirping, and labored breathing, BUT SHE HELD ON SO TIGHT meant so much to me.
EVERYDAY and EVERYWHERE I GO my friends and family ask me about her. I promise, it's everyday! We provided her with so much love that our friends/family understood that and felt it too!
My boyfriend is having a tough time b/c he heard her fall. I have to stay even stronger through this to support him. Poor guy. Ironically, she loved me more than him but he is suffering equally. THIS IS TOUGH!

It really is true they hold on as tight to life as they can until it's time for them to move on. I respect that about them but yet it's their biggest downfall b/c I know I could have helped her sooner. They are the mot rewarding animal to have in our lives too.

Thank you for taking the time to read my emotional post. Time heals all. I can feel her spirit in my body. I am thankful for this website to have other Parrotlet owners to connect with.
