I got my blocks at walmart, but I've seen them at other pet stores too. They're in the small animal section and come pre-drilled. This toy was very easy to make and pretty darn cheap too!

That is really clever! Simon would probably like that as he has decided he would rather forage for food than eat it out of his dish. At least I think that is what he means by tossing his seeds out of the dish to eat off of the floor......

When huey chews though a hanging toy I save the pieces that I can use over again, I then re string them together making new toys. I will try this, this weekend.

Oh my goodness! I copied Strix's design (although I used something different over the top of the cups) and put it in Daisy's cage tonight and as expected....she sat across her cage from it, all skinnied down and giving it the stink eye!

But, within 30 minutes (I had moved to another room close by) I heard what sounded like a spray paint can rattling and came back in here to see what she was up to. And she was doing her very best to get the oats out of the bottom cup! She was also making war on the bell below the very bottom cup (something she does on any bell in her cage) and she was having the time of her little parrotlet life!

I haven't seen her this animated or interested in ANY toy like she is with this foraging toy! Thank you, Strix, for sharing your photo of Beaker's toy with all of us---and Daisy sends her thanks too!

Awesome! I get the same reaction out of Beaker with his... its the toy he is the most active and vocal over and he loves bashing the bell at the bottom too. Would love to see a picture or short video of Daisy playing with hers!

Enjoyed the picture & video of Beaker taking to his new toy-----smart little guy---keep him busy and out of trouble.
Hamster stuff is a good way of getting materials for the birds. Bored birds chirp too much!!

He loved his toy so much he started feeding it this morning. :\ I promptly took it away. I finally have some of the proper flat beads to put over top, so I might try switching it up and giving it back in a week or so and see if he does it again. Otherwise I have a PVC elbow that I'll be making a new foraging toy out of as soon as I can get some o-rings.

Thanks for this post. I love it, so easy to make! Maui loves paper so I used that instead of wood blocks. He can see the millet at the bottom and isn't sure what to do. It's got his attention and curiosity going!!
