SS Chain

Other than online sites, where do you guys go for your bulk stainless steel chain? I was thinking of checking the jewelry making section at walmart or maybe even a hardware store? I'm just looking for the really tiny stuff used in toy making.

I buy mine online from hardware stores or bird specific sites. To be honest, I find it really hard to find that kind of stuff at jewelry making areas, especially local.

I would try hardware stores. I use the bigger plastic chain for Paulies toys...works for us.

Well I did find some at walmart in the jewelry section, but it didn't say what type of metal or anything so I didn't buy it. I did check out some hardware store websites, but couldn't find much. I'll keep looking and if all else fails I'll probably be ordering online soon anyway...

MakeYourOwnBirdToys.com has lots of options, reasonably priced.

Haven't ordered from there myself but their sister company Super Bird Creations makes my favourite toys. They only ship to the states I believe though so I buy their toys from Amazon.ca

The walmart stuff or other jewelry stores stuff isn't likely going to be stainless steel, it's more likely other metals which can contain zinc or lead which can be toxic to our guys... not to mention the rust factor... Stainless steel tends to be more expensive.

Yeah, tell me about it! I spent more than $1 a washer for the right kind to make my own perches. I was floored! I know I can buy SS chain for $2.50 a foot, so I'll keep my eye out at the local hardware stores and see what their prices compare if they even carry it in the right size!

Woah, stainless steel washers really are that expensive?!
I mean, I figured it would be more expensive than the regular steel stuff, but wouldn't have guessed it'd be this much of a difference! We have a hardwarestore in town here, where I get a discount on anything they sell. Might take a look there and see how much those things cost, if it's (a lot) cheaper I might be able to get some extras and ship them out?

Although I do live in the Netherlands.... So that might still get expensive, lol

I usually get 5-6 stainless steel washers for $2; this is at my local hardware store...
