Flints Indoor Aviary

While I had been working on the Playgym for Flint, my dad was working on an indoor flight cage we designed. Because of 2 large dogs Flint is out at least 3 times a day but can't be loose all the time so I want him to have tons of space. There is still much to do (this is the shell) but the major part is done. It is a 2 piece so that I can manage the top part to take outdoors to clean (3 piece if you count the sliding tray) Both sides are doors (and still debating if I want a small door in the front) The wood bar sticking out of the left side door still needs some tweaking - it's a swivel bar that will have feed cups on both sides (clean on outside to fill, full on inside) and swing from inside to outside so I can easily change cups without opening doors (and getting threatened for touching his food) eye roll here The paint looks hideous cause the cage is still downstairs where it is dark but it matches the trim in the Sweet corn yellow computer room upstairs where he will be - no paint on the inside though. The floor, back wall and ceiling are melamine which I still need to drill a ton of holes in...I will use hangar bolts (ss) to mount perches and toys etc. And wheels since it would have been quite awkward to move otherwise. Still may open up the top with some screen to let in more light. The screen is stainless steel (expensive damn stuff) I have a large Arbutus branch that I'm cutting as the main perch, climbing feature. So although it's technically finished I still have much to do before it's ready for Flint to move in. Dimensions are 4 feet x 4 feet by about 2 feet wide

It is awesome! Flint is one lucky birdie! It is spectacular, and I can't wait to see the final result! (I rather suspect a, umm, normal human being wouldn't understand a cage that size for a 30g bird, but I wish I had one like that for Tumi! At least I only have one harmless young dog who has learned that birds are friends; seriously, PJ will bark at birds on the patio asking them to play with him! I think I broke my mom's dog. )

Yes...It was only SLIGHTLY cheaper than just buying a big cage and then the stoopid steel place said they had no minimum order when I phoned. They didn't have enough when I went to pick it up and wanted to charge me $60.00 freight to get a 8 foot piece in ? WTH??? So I found a bus company that shipped it for $25.00 I'm going to use the leftover to make a carry cage. I wanted the 1/2 inch but it was SUPER ridiculously priced

Me too...it will be a work in progress - since he already has a flight cage. But I'm excited to be working on the fine details finally
