Top 10 Pet Bird Hazards

With so many new babies on this Forum, I thought this might be timely. It's also just a refresher for all of us.

That list would be good if it wasn't for point 2. They should have said something like 'dangers of parrot movement' because even a parrot that has had its wings completely mangled can fall off a stand and wander about on the floor to get squashed or jump into a cup of coffee. All parrots need watching, not just the flighted ones.

I didn't see ceiling fans on the list, that's a major one for birds.

Most people I know pay attention to the danger lists, it's those normal everyday things that people forget about, like the fans, open windows/doors etc.

Thanks for sharing! And good points about the everyday stuff...
I must admit, it's hard to not share my food when one of the birds is after it while I'm chewing. lol

How about when a bird bites you on the lips! Yesterday I got a good one from Ollie, who promptly went back in his cage after I tried to give a kiss. Didn't work.

You know what I keep worrying about (and I don't even have my boy yet) my recliner. I sit in a recliner all the time (back surgeries) and I am so fearful my baby is going to go under the chair and how am I going to get him out? I can't close it to get up and I can't get out of the chair with the foot up..I was evening thinking about getting one of those fake owls and seeing if it would fit under the chair to scare him out...I'm hoping he doesn't pay any attention to the black hole under the chair but I am concerned.

I can just see me having to call 911 from my chair and having the door busted in by the cops to get my baby out from under the chair so I can get up.
