If you have a green pied male... then the pied markings should be yellow... the blue should be just the normal markings for a male and if he has pied markings in these areas, they should be white. I'm guessing your little just had his first molt. I didn't see that happen with Indi, but supposedly, the pieds can become more pied after the first molt.

What are pin feathers and what do they look like

Hello. First post here... I have a question about molting. My 5month old parrotlet started to lose feathers around her head about 4 weeks ago. It is on the both sides and back of her head and she is pretty much bald there

I understand that at this age they mol,t so I am hoping that this is what it is.. I contacted her breeder and she asked me if I could see 'pin feathers' but I don 't know what this is. I tried looking it up on google to find a image but didn't find one. |

I am hoping someone can help me with this. The best way I can describe my birdie is that her skin is pink and it has little bumps on it. I also do see some type of ver pale whitish lines.. Is this a description of pin feathers?

I feed my birdie Roudy Bush and Nutriberries. Give her egg 2x a week and some green cooked veggies about 3x a week. She doesn't like fruit. Tried many varieties and nothing seems to excite her.

Thank you so much in advance !!!!!!!

term "pinfeather" describes the newly grown feathers found on a bird that is going through a molt. A pinfeather is usually short and closer to the skin, and is covered in the same type of keratinous material that makes up the shafts of feathers. This covering must be removed in order for the new feather to grow properly.

They kinda look like a white casing over the feather but very small like the bird has the bo derek look in 10. Though you may be too young to know that look. Also when they are molting they need to be misted or take baths. It helps with the itchiness.

If you look at this picture in this link: http://www.thefinsters.com/flog/item-178.html
The white things are pin feathers.

But if your bird is bald, then I would be more worried about something more going on. Is there another bird that she's housed with? Maybe if you post a picture of her, we can help that way.

Hi Jeanne and Jinx.
My birdie is the only pet in the house.
She is otherwise very happy and active and she is eating well.
Here is a quick picture of the balding.

Thanks so much for your help.

Nope, that is not normal molting. Time for a good avian vet to have a look.

Hi no that is definitely not normal. Please have him checked out immediately by a Vet and let us know how he is doing once you do.

A bald spot like that is not normal as the others said. A vet check is in order. Let us know what happens.

Definitely not normal. The feathers themselves look weird too... they look dark grey/black.

Did you find out anything?

I have been thinking about this and am wondering if the bird is rubbing the feathers off on something? Just a thought.
