Cage size

Hi guys! My little guy is 12 weeks old and I am wondering when I could upgrade his cage to a bigger one! The woman at the pet store told me I should never get him a big cage, but after researching on my own I realize how cruel it is to keep him in a cage that is the appropriate size for him sleeping. Also, what cage size would be okay for him!

The advice I got was to get the biggest cage I could afford and have space for, but to make sure the bar spacing was appropriate for parrotlets. If it's too big they could get their head stuck and hurt themselves badly. As for when, I'd say when he's comfortable flying and perching around the cage, and you're sure he won't fall and hurt himself. If you're worried you could put some fleece or something at the bottom of the cage in case he falls until you see he's comfortable moving around it.

My favorite cages right now are longer than they are tall. I find that my birds tent to hang out on the top of the cage and not as much the bottom, so I feel like they have more space when I can hang a bunch of toys and they fly back and forth even though it's not a full flight cage. Lotts of room to play on top too. Just my preference!

I am currently in school and working full time, but he is out every time I am home. I am not sure how big the measurements, but whenever I see someone mention a great nighttime cage, that is about the size cage I have for him now.

He has his wings clipped, so I am thinking about getting him a longer one than it is tall. I get too nervous that he will be falling! Thanks guys!
