Is your question about parrotlet genetics? I don't know that violet is a possible feather color for a parrotlet, and I caution against breeding for new colors because often inbreeding is utilized and the offspring suffers physical consequences. We have a couple mutations on this forum with poor feathers as a result of poor breeding, and those are only the visible issues that come from humans trying to create birds as they want them instead of loving the bird as it is. Personality, not color, is what should matter in a parrotlet.

I do not know of a mutation that is violet, I have not seen them from the best breeders even outside of the USA and other countries are ahead of the US on new mutations.
And, I agree with Dana about the inbreeding risk.
There is such a thing as a violet Love bird.

Violet love birds are beautiful.

There are lovely gre-blue parrotlets (like my Levi - his back is all grey)

I haven't ever heard of a violet parrotlet, but what a wonderful innovation in breeding if such a mutation were generated. I'd love to see what they looked like.

Thumbs up

I am pretty sure I saw a lavender shade on a parrotlet.

I just bought a new car and my salesman was from Venezuela . I showed him Bogie's picture and he says that those little green parrotlets were everywhere in the area he was living in. He said that the green p'lets were the original color that derived from the Amazon Parrot.

I would love to see a live and wild flock of parrotlets in person, of course!

The purple / lavender/ violet parrotlet is a hoax. Somebody photoshopped a few pictures of parrotlets and made them purple. A while back a few scammers were trying to sell them on eBay, Craigslist, etc. It was a big deal then but now the old purple parrotlet pictures show up on some on the video sites like Pinterest, Imgur, Google images, etc. Beware, if somebody tries to sell you a purple parrotlet they are trying to rob you.

I think some breeders are still claiming to sell the violet parrotlet but the are actually some mutation of blue such as cobalt. Which is a beautiful mutation but there is no need for the subterfuge.

I'd love to see actual ones, not a fraud; if ever such an actual mutation is generated by a breeder, such deceptions will be a strong "headwind" to recognition of what's happened, it would just seem like more of the same...very sad, what a shame. Curious that some breeders would continue this fraud.
