new friend arriving tomorrow

Hello!

My new 7 week old parrotlet is meeting me and coming home tomorrow, I am so excited I have been researching this for months and now the day is finally here!

I've spoken to vets and breeders, read books and articles and so many websites I'm almost blind and I am so excited I could pop! However, I worry that although I will love him...what if he hates me? What if he can't bear the sight of me and packs his bags and goes back to his breeder as soon as he can??

I guess this is a fear with all new babies but thanks to all the advice I've read I hope I can win him over if I do make him sick as a parrot (sorry, couldn't resist) and am looking forward to making a new friend...and sharing photos

Congratulations on being a parrotlet slave!!
You worry needlessly ----- your parrotlet will love you feeding and playing with him. Parrotlets get into adolescence at 4-5 months and get nippy. With patience, the "gentle beak" technique helps. Keep a clean cage with fresh water daily----lots of Nutriberry goodies to bond. Early morning and towards evening are the best times for training. Let us know how it goes.

Hi, thanks!

I reposted this in the introductions section so aplolgies for the late reply.

We're getting on famously! His first day with me yesterday and we've already built up confidence to perch on my finger, I'm really pleased he trusts me so much already 😊

Keep up your good work in getting to bond with him. Chose any name?

If you don't already have one, a smaller cage works better for the baby bird; he'll need a bigger cage when a little older. Keep us informed!

Hi thanks! Yes i took one look at him and thought 'what a little pickle!' So, that's his name

I bought a ginormous cage because I'd read you should get the biggest you can with proper bar spacing so their heads don't get stuck and when I told the lady at the aviary she laughed and said I'd ever see him agian if I put him straight in there so I got a smaller budgie cage which is his nursery and he's in there until he comes to me then he can move in to his big boy palace!

There's a picture of him in his nursery having a chat with one of my guinea pigs in an album on my user page if you'd like to see
