I don't think any parrotlet colors are ugly! I actually find the olive to be quite lovely.

Both of my parrotlets are pacific green celestial. My female had very gorgeous pied parents. As for my male, I cannot remember his parents genetics.

My female is a rec. pied green split to pastel blue fallow. Her father is a Pied Green Fallow andher mom is a pastel blue pied. If I am correct, all of their offspring would be rec. pied green split to pastel blue fallow. Though she is a visual green her eyes are more plum colored than the amber of my visual green male, and she is the brightest emerald green parrotlet I have ever seen, with a gorgeous lemon-lime on her cheek feathers. I'm waiting to hear back from the breeder of my male because I can't recall what he could be split to.

I've been learning about parrotlet genetics lately and it is fascinating! I look forward to calculating what their chicks may be like!

Just curious: How many people have a color mutation of the pacific parrotlet? And there are color mutation of the green rump, but I do not know anybody who owns them as pets. Just breeder birds for now.

As you can see I have a yellow. We found him on Caraigs list. My husband wanted a blue one and I said what about yellow. He saw the pics that were sent to me and he kept saying that's not yellow but he sure is. I love his blue rump. In contrast to his yellow it almost looks purple. I say he's my Minnesota viking bird. LOL
By the way my name is Kathy and my name on here was supposed to be grannykat but I misspelled it and just left it.

Well if Minnesota can have a bird than someone has to breed a black and gold for my Saints after all we are the super bowl champs lol. The yellow is very beautiful by the way.

what might mine look like, after she molts?

I'll definately take pictures before and after, so you can help me identify her, if she really is a green lucida. Very informative, thankyou.

I have a blue and grey fallow baby. He has a bright, cobalt blue over his eyes and an aqua blue and bright purple rump (no joke...I think its to show off to the ladies; don't want to have just a regular 'ol blue bum and blend into the male p'let croud I guess...like having red eyes isn't different enough haha!).

This thread is fascinating, and really interesting. I have read Sandee Molendas' Parrotlet Handbook book, which is really excellent source if information about Parrotlet and Parrotlet care and I recommend it to anyone. I have read somewhere that I think that my fellow Brits are seemingly now calling Pastels marbled, but I don't know if I am 100% correct about that. But I think that marbled best suits a bird with two - tone body feathers and pastel for a lighter, but more uniform colouring. I am by no means an expert on this subject. I have posted a pics of my bird Elliott on here, he is coming up to 4 months old and is going through a moulting. But he is kind of how I would describe as marbled, in that he has 2 tone green/yello feathers, his wings are slightly lighter and have darker patches on them. They are beautiful when they are spread. He has darker tail feathers but has some small patches of green that look very metallic, in fact when I photograph him with my Galaxy S5, he looks very metallic all over, but different tones of green. His rump is very dark colbolt, almost purple. Ironically I was really after a blue and Elliott was the only one left, and he was this green and was more expensive due to his colouring, but I thought, he looked very cute and I was more after a lovely pet than the colouring, so I got him.

I apologise if you have seen them before.

........ I am going to add them as another post on this thread... as had trubs uploading!
