Foraging Basket

Here is a foraging basket I made for Beaker. He hasn't checked it out yet, but I'm sure he will love it when he does. I got the basket from the dollar store, I think I got 3 for a buck or something. Then I just filled it with unbleached paper shred, buttons and small animal wood bits with holes in them. I hid some pine nuts and pumpkin seeds in there, some of which are even shoved in the holes on the buttons/wood pieces.

Yeah, I figured I'd just make it up and put it in there, he usually gets up the nerve to check out new things in a few days after I put them in there, so I'll just be patient with it. He checks out his toys more and more every day, so I just want to make sure to expose him to a lot of new scary things in a way that he can adjust. So far he doesn't seem to be freaked out by any particular colour, which is great!

He still hasn't touched it. I might have to lure him over by placing a few pieces of millet on top to give him the hint. I figured the lure of crinkle paper would have been enough, but so far its a no-go.

Parrotlets are strange and fickle creatures. I bought Tumi a destruct-o toy I think a year ago. He was CONVINCED that it would eat him and wouldn't get near it. And two days ago, he DESTROYED it.
Tumi recommends cat balls for tossing fun! And small animal toys (like for ferrets) also make good bird toys. Too many bird toys are too big for our guys, so creativity is key.

Beaker is kind of the opposite. He has to check everything out that's new. He still hasn't really touched the foraging bin, but I did notice he ripped some of the contents out recently. His favourite toys are Olympic rings- which he likes to climb through and yell at when they swing around too much for him... and the mini yucca kebab that I recently got him.
