I know the rule that smaller bar spacing is ideal for parrotlets, but the issue is that I already have a huge cage that I think will be a lot of fun for Bernie. But the bar spacing is wider that usually suggested.
I'm wondering if anyone uses a cage like this without issue or if there are any solutions other than selling the cage.
The widest I've heard suggested for a parrotlet is 1/2". The problem is that they could get their heads stuck between the bars and hurt themselves. I wouldn't risk it.
I guess it can work but every case I have heard of wide bar spacing and parrotlets usually is because of parrotlet getting into mischief and even causing its death. It would not be a risk I would like to take with my little one.
1/2 inch is fine. I have that size on both my cages with no problems.
